Available to the wholes of the UK, ADSL technologies can supply speeds of up to 24Mbps downstream, and with the aid of Annex M, upload speeds can be as high as 2.5Mbps. The rise of fibre broadband technologies has seen the demise of ADSL, but it remains an important and dependable technology for many.
Fibre to the Cabinet is rapidly being rolled out across the UK, delivering speeds of up to 80Mbps downstream. It utilises fibre delivered to the local green street cabinet, in conjunction with existing copper cables to the premises. By removing copper from the circuit, the speeds delivered, and reliability can be that much greater than ADSL.
This new technology can offer ultrafast connectivity up to 330Mb through existing copper lines. You can liken it to the next generation of FTTC. It requires FTTC to be enabled at the cabinet, and a further hardware upgrade to the equipment at the cabinet. If your line length falls below 250m, then the option to order may be available.
Fibre to the Premises, as the name suggests, sees fibre optic cables delivered to the customer's premises. They will make use of existing ducts or even pass fibre across overhead cables to reach the site. The speeds can be staggeringly impressive up to 1Gbps downstream. As is the case with delivering fibre as part of a leased line, there are the risk of delays and excess construction charges.
Fibre to the Premises on Demand are bespoke installations of FTTP to addresses which can also be serviced by FTTC. Unlike FTTP, it will make use of the existing fibre installation to the cabinet, and then extend the fibre reach to the dwelling. Whilst the speeds and subscription costs will appeal to consumers, the construction charges can often be prohobitive.
A low cost leased line variant which offers a service level agreement. This is an FTTC based technology, backed by 1:1 contention within the carrier network. The TalkTalk Business variant includes the line as part of the subscription, making it great value, and should be of serious consideration for any business that values their connection, but without the budget for a fibre leased line.
Bonded copper pairs can deliver credible symmetrical speeds for a small business. TalkTalk Business will deliver up to 4 pairs to achieve your desired speed, and BT Wholesale will put in more if needed. It is old technology, so consideration needs to be put into the business needs over the duration of the contract, to ensure that it's not going to end up redundant.
Fibre leased lines offer the ultimate in performance and dependability to any business. Regardless of location we can deliver the speeds you need, this is because copper is removed from the equation, and you have a dedicated fibre optic connection running between your property and the exchange. We can offer speeds from 10Mb through to 10Gb either supplied as a single link or with added diversity with multiple fibres and paths.
We can offer nationwide wireless leased line coverage delivering speeds of up to 100Mb. Whilst this isn't necessarily the cheapest method of delivery, it can help circumnavigate high fibre excess construction costs, as well as delivering technological resilience options to large parts of the UK. We have developed line-of-sight tools to aid estimations pre-order to see if delivery is feasible.
The carrier we have worked with the longest offers 100% UK coverage for broadband, including the most rural locations. We can offer a complete portfolio of 20CN ADSL, 21CN ADSL, FTTC and FTTP. Whilst not necessarily the cheapest carrier, they are dependable with a superb core network and detailed diagnostics should a fault arise.
Formally known as Opal, they are separated from the retail TalkTalk arm. Their name can sometimes put some clients off, but in reality you'll be hard pushed to see any difference in the quality of their connections or support in comparison to BT Wholesale. Whilst coverage isn't 100%, it will cover the vast majority of exchanges, other than the most rural, supporting ADSL and FTTC.
We can offer a complete portfolio of EFM, GEA, Fibre & Wireless from BT Wholesale. Much like with TalkTalk they utilise the expertise and man-power of Openreach to deliver connecting the supplied lines to their exchange equipment, before passing traffic over their core network to ICUK's POPs.
Where they are considered 'on-net' Virgin's fibre leased line proposition is often hard to match, and offers a credible alternative to the Openreach supported BT Wholesale and TalkTalk Business solutions, and this is why they are in our portfolio. We are only able to offer fibre leased lines from Virgin, not the 'cable' propositions you need their retail arm sells.
TalkTalk Business offer some of the most competitively priced EFM, EoFTTC and fibre propositions across the UK. Their proposition is very similar to that of BT Wholesale, purely because they are reliant on Openreach to physically deliver and support the connections.
CityFibre are an interesting carrier aiming to deliver a true alternative to Openreach. They are installing their own ducts and fibre, and where they are on-net can offer some very tempting product and pricing propositions to pick from.
We are one of few ISP who actively allow you to quote and order EAD point-to-point circuits from Openreach. For distances less than 40km, these solutions can often work out to be exceptionally good value for money.
ICUK owns and manages it's own network, IP ranges and has multiple multi-homed POP locations for broadband and leased lines. By controlling our own network we are better placed to support our client's current and future needs. For many years we have continued to channel profits into network expansion for the benefit off all our resellers and end users. If you would like to know more about our network, or explore the L2TP integration then please do not hesitate to ask.
